Privacy Policy

What this website collects, why, who else can see it, and how to ask us to delete it. Written to describe what actually happens rather than to cover every conceivable case.

This is not legal advice. This page was written to describe honestly how this website actually works and what it actually collects. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer, and it is not a substitute for advice from one. If you need a privacy policy that has been checked against your specific obligations, have an attorney review it.

Who we are

This website is operated by Deck Builder Sparks, a deck building business serving Sparks, Reno and the surrounding communities in Washoe, Storey and Lyon counties, Nevada. The site address is deckbuildersparks.com.

We do not currently publish a phone number or an email address on this site. The way to reach us, including about anything on this page, is the contact form.

What we collect, and when

Information you give us through the contact form

The contact form is the only place on this site where you are asked to provide information about yourself. It collects:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number, if you choose to give one — this field is optional
  • Which service you think you need, chosen from a list
  • Whatever you write in the message field

The message field is free text. Please put in it only what you are comfortable sending — typically the property, the deck and what you want done. There is no reason to include financial details, identification numbers or anything sensitive, and we would rather you did not.

Information collected automatically when you submit the form

Our form software (Formidable Forms) records technical information alongside a submission, which can include the IP address the submission came from, the browser and device it was sent from, and the date and time. This is standard for contact forms and exists mainly to identify and filter automated spam.

Server logs

The site is hosted by Hostinger. Like effectively every web host, their servers keep access logs recording requests to the site, which typically include IP addresses, timestamps, the pages requested and browser information. We do not use these logs to build any profile of visitors.

What we do not collect

At the time of writing there is no analytics package, no advertising pixel, no tracking script and no third-party marketing tag installed on this site. We do not run a newsletter and there is no mailing list to be added to. If that changes, this page will change with it.

Cookies

This site sets a small number of functional cookies rather than tracking ones:

  • WordPress sets cookies for logged-in administrators. As a visitor you will not receive these unless you have an account here.
  • Formidable Forms may set a cookie in connection with the contact form, for example to prevent duplicate submissions or to support spam filtering.
  • LiteSpeed Cache may set cookies relating to how cached pages are served, which is a performance function rather than a tracking one.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not stop you reading the site, though it may affect whether the contact form behaves correctly.

Why we hold what we hold

One reason: to answer your enquiry and, if it goes further, to quote for and carry out work on your property. That is the whole purpose. We do not use enquiry details for anything else.

Who else can see it

We do not sell your information, we do not rent it, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. The parties who can technically access it are the services that make the site work:

  • Hostinger, our web host, whose servers store the website and its database, including form submissions.
  • Formidable Forms, the contact form software running on that server, which stores submissions in the site database and sends notification emails.
  • Our email provider, which carries the notification email that reaches us when you submit the form.

We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, for example in response to a valid legal request.

If a project proceeds, information you have given us may be shared with the parties needed to do the work — a building department as part of a permit application, or an engineer preparing drawings where those are required. That is part of delivering the job you asked for, and it does not extend beyond it.

Nevada residents

Nevada law gives residents the right to tell certain website operators not to sell their personal information. We do not sell personal information, and we have no plans to. If you want to submit a request under Nevada law in any case, send it through the contact form and it will be recorded and honoured.

How long we keep it

Form submissions are stored in the website database. We keep enquiries that did not lead to work while they remain useful for following up, and we delete them on request. Records connected to work actually carried out are kept longer, because business and tax records generally need retaining for a period.

If you want an enquiry deleted, ask and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, so what you type into the form is encrypted in transit. Administrator access is limited to the people who run the business and the site.

We are not going to claim your data is perfectly secure, because nobody can honestly claim that about anything held on the internet. What we can say is that we do not collect more than we need, and that the less that sits in a database the less there is to lose.

Children

This site is aimed at property owners and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information through the form, tell us and we will remove it.

Your choices

You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Send the request through the contact form. We may need to ask a question or two to be confident we are talking to the right person before acting on a request.

Changes to this policy

If what the site collects changes — if analytics is added, for instance, or the form starts asking for something new — this page will be updated and the date at the top will change with it.

Questions

Want your information removed?

Ask through the contact form and say so plainly. We will delete the enquiry and confirm that we have.

We answer questions about this page the same way we answer everything else — through the form, from a person who has read what you sent.
